Why Good Health Doesn’t Have to be Complicated: Getting Back to the Basics

April 25, 2023

Are you tired of being bombarded with conflicting information on what constitutes a healthy lifestyle? Since the rise of social media and the internet, we’ve been exposed to an endless amount of information on how to achieve optimal health and often this information is conflicting.

Unfortunately, not all this information is based on sound scientific evidence and sometimes writers distort the truth. Why? Because sensational headlines sound edgy, they tempt us with promise of the latest ‘breakthrough’ and offer a few cherry-picked facts that are more successful at selling papers than telling us anything new or valuable.

So how does the average reader know what to believe? Start with this old saying – ‘if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.’ The truth is that maintaining good health should and can be simple but not so simple that it can be found in a magic diet pill or a single exercise regime.

And remember, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to health. What works for one person may not work for another, depending on factors like genetics, lifestyle, and environment. Additionally, scientific research is constantly evolving. This can make it challenging to keep up with the latest research and recommendations.

In a nutshell, focus on the basics. Instead of getting caught up in the latest fads or trends, prioritise regular exercise, a balanced diet, adequate sleep, and stress management. These core principles have been shown time and time again to be essential for good health.

Additionally, it’s important to seek out information from credible sources. Look for information that is based on widely supported scientific research and be wary of information that seems too good to be true. Consult with a healthcare professional if you have questions or concerns about your health. Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment and find what works best for you.
