Do you know what you ‘should’ do but you have a hard time staying consistent?
The key questions are, when you catch yourself overeating or indulging or buying that thing you know you’ll regret do you;
1) Say to yourself ‘screw it, I’ll start tomorrow’? Or do you;
2) Notice what you’re doing, remind yourself of why it isn’t helpful and return to your healthy habits?
If you said yes to the first question and no to the second, you are likely caught in the ‘diet cycle’ in which we think in dualities, we are either ‘good’ or ‘bad’, ‘healthy’ or ‘unhealthy’, ‘cleansing’ or ‘polluting’.
It’s bizarre that we think this way. After all don’t we all want a lifestyle of moderation that enables us to have that piece of cake or celebrate with a drink now and then without regret or self-loathing?
The truth is, a diet package is seductive. When you’re feeling low and sick of listening to your own inner dialogue telling you you’ve been bad AGAIN, buying back a sense of control and self-respect is highly appealing.
But before you buy, do this one thing – ask yourself…
- What will you do when your diet is over? Why will it be different this time?
- What habits will you have changed for the long term?
- Will you have also learnt to manage stress better, sleep better and other lifestyle habits that build you up?
If you’re not sure, chances are your new diet plan will be another short term quick fix.
